The CheckSystem wizard

The CheckSystem wizard helps you to create a new job. You can open the wizard by clicking the New-Job-Button on the toolbar.

First, you must decide which job you want to create. You can choose between disk/partition monitoring, directory monitoring, application monitoring, CPU monitoring, service monitoring, (log) file or http monitoring.

Disk / partition monitoring:

If you choose disk or partition monitoring, the next screen shows you a list of the available disks. Select a disk and press Next. Then you'll get some information about the selected disk and you can enter the minimum free space limit. If the free space goes under that limit, CheckSystem sends you a mail alert with all related things. Press Next. Here can you decide if CheckSystem should perform an action when the free space fall under the limit. Click on next you can specify the mail alert options for that job (see below).

Directory monitoring:

If you choose directory monitoring, in the next screen you have to select the directory, enter the maximum directory size and determine if the subfolders should be monitored, too. If the directory size goes over the limit, CheckSystem sends you a Mail Alert with all related things. Press Next. Here can you decide if CheckSystem should perform an action when the used space breaks the limit. Click on next you can specify the mail alert options for that job (see below).

Application monitoring:

If you choose application monitoring, in the next screen you must select if you want to execute or terminate an application. Then enter the application's filename and location and some optional program start  parameter. Click on next you can specify the mail alert options for that job (see below).

CPU monitoring:

If you choose CPU monitoring, in the next screen you must enter which CPU should be monitored (only important if your system has more than one CPU). In the second field enter the maximum CPU usage and the third contains the period in which the CPU usage must break the maximum before a warning message will be sent. 10 seconds is a good start. In the next screen you can define whether an action should be performed in case the limit was broken. You can execute or terminate an application. If you want to perform an action, in the next screen you have to enter the applications file name and location. Else the job can be finished. Click on next you can specify the mail alert options for that job (see below).

Service monitoring:

If you choose system service monitoring, in the next screen you have to select if you want to start or stop a service. Press Next and select the service from the list. The green icon on the left side on a service indicates that a service is currently running. A red icon means the service is currently stopped. Click on next you can specify the mail alert options for that job (see below).

File monitoring:

If you choose file monitoring, in the next screen you have to select if you want to monitor if a file property has or hasn't been changed. Press Next. Enter the directory and select when the monitored file properties (internal saved)  should be updated after a check. Press Next. You get the current properties. Select which property should be monitored and press Next. Now, you can you decide if CheckSystem should perform an action when one of the properties have been changed. Click on next you can specify the mail alert options for that job (see below).

Http monitoring:

If you choose http monitoring, in the next screen you have to enter the name of the website, the proxy server information and if CheckSystem should send a recover message. The recover message informs when a website is up and running again. Press Next. Here, you can decide if CheckSystem should perform an action when the monitored website is down. Click on next you can specify the mail alert options for that job (see below).

Log file monitoring:

If you choose log file monitoring, in the next screen select the file which should be monitored and determine if the new new log entries should be mailed via a attached text file. Press Next. Now, you can you decide if CheckSystem should perform an action when one of the properties have been changed. Click on next you can specify the mail alert options for that job (see below).

TCP/IP connection monitor:

If you select the tcp/ip connection monitor you must enter the name (i.e. www.myserver.com) or ip address (i.e. 192.168.1.111) of the monitored system in the next dialog. Seceondly you specify if you would like to be informed when the system is available resp. not available. Click on Next. If the the state of a tcp/ip connection has been changed, i.e. the system is not longer available, a task (program, batch file, etc.) can be executed. Click on next you can specify the mail alert options for that job (see below).

Mail alert options:

In the first field enter the mail template which should be used for the job. E-mail templates must be created with the e-mail template editor. If want to replace the specified mailto address enter the new recipient in the second field. If you would like to send a Direct Message, too, specify the name or ip address of the target system in the third field.

 

Press Finish to complete the new job.
